Patrick Demasco

Patrick Demasco, the founder of Literate Systems, is a Software Architect and Lead Software Engineer with 28 years of technical and leadership experience in the design, development, and deployment of complex software systems.  Armed with a deep and thorough knowledge of software engineering and lifecycle processes, Patrick has a proven ability to deliver systems that meet stringent quality and schedule goals, with a track record that covers a broad range of technologies and applications.  Areas that he has made his technical specialties include Client Server Systems Architecture, User Interface Design, and a variety of technical computing areas (e.g., graphics, artificial intelligence).

Patrick’s strong leadership and communication skills are a feature of all his project work.  His experience includes not only project management but also the hiring, mentoring, and supervision of software developers.  A hallmark of his approach to team software development is an emphasis on the rapid creation and consistent use of process documents, including requirements, design, and test plans.

Patrick received his BS in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his MS in Engineering Design from Tufts University.  He lives in the Greater Boston area, where he enjoys coaching youth soccer and is an enthusiastic audiophile.

Steve Reber

Steve Reber, Lead Software Engineer and Project Manager, has over 25 years of experience in the software industry, as developer, architect, team leader, project manager, and mentor.  He joined Literate Systems in 1999.

Steve has extensive technical experience in user interface design, application development, and embedded development, experience he has put to work in the development of many products for the medical, biotechnical, and scientific instrumentation industries. A factor in his success in these industries is his ability to work with – and in many cases lead – interdisciplinary project teams that involved scientists and mechanical and electrical engineers working along with software developers.

Steve believes that effective communication is a cardinal requirement of successful project teams, and his skills in this area have been particularly useful in his participation in a number of virtual project teams in which experts from wide-ranging geographic locations have worked together to develop projects efficiently, on time, and within budget.

Steve received his BS in Electrical Engineering from MIT and his MS in Applied Physics from Columbia University.  He lives in Vermont.  One of his chief outside interest is European history, which he formerly taught at Northeastern University and Auburn University.
